Give-Yourself-The-Gift-of-GivingWe’ve all heard the phrase “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” But with all the chaos of the season, we often feel more stressed than blessed. We have house guests, family gatherings, office parties, school programs and church functions. We are baking, cleaning, planning, decorating and shopping. Oh the shopping!

We shop for our spouse, parents, boss, neighbor, child’s teacher and elderly Aunt Ida who still sends $20 every year in a Christmas card.  We get so caught up in the busyness of Christmas that we forget that giving is supposed to be a source of joy for us.

The opportunity to give to others is everywhere this time of year. Beyond all of our obligations, there are chances to give to people who are truly in need, people whose simple gratefulness will remind us of the joy of giving.

Here are some great organizations to give to:

  1. Operation Christmas Child
  2. Angel Tree Project
  3. Salvation Army (those bell-ringing Santas are not just a guilt trip on your way into the store)
  4. Toys for Tots
  5. Rescue Missions

You have so much to offer, whether you realize it or not. So do yourself a favor: this Christmas, take time to look around you and see how you can help those less fortunate. You will experience a joy that no family get-together or festive Christmas party can bring.  Give yourself the gift of giving. How will you open your heart this season?
